Training Formats to Fit Every Need

Education Institutes
Basic, intermediate and advanced course tracks to enhance every skill level.
APPA holds three seasonal education institutes a year (winter, spring, and fall) throughout the country. Institutes offer in-depth training for utility personnel in a variety of job-specific subject areas. This training format allows employees to focus on a single topic or spend the week in multiple classes for more comprehensive training.

Each year, APPA hosts seven major conferences, each designed specifically to meet the needs of public power employees in a given sector of the utility. The annual National Conference is the largest public power meeting. Other meetings cover business and finance, engineering and operations, legal, economic development, and customer and community services topics.
Additionally, on-demand training on industry "hot-topics" like smart grid, energy efficiency and executive leadership are worked into the yearly schedule.
Certificate Programs
Invest in yourself and gain a competitive edge by earning a professional development credential from your national association.
Our certificate programs are designed to develop specialists skilled in key aspects of the utility. Each program consists of a core set of in-class curriculum; and in some cases, a follow-up skills test; a project component; and a continuing education requirement.
APPA offers the following four certificate programs:
In-house courses

Just as industry pressures for improved performance increase, travel budgets are being trimmed. If it’s difficult for your staff and governing board to attend education courses outside of the office, let us come to you. In-house training is a solution that saves time and money. Webinars
A convenient, cost-effective way to get information on timely topics.
Webinars make it easy to participate in educational programs without the expense of air travel, hotels and meals. Industry experts and APPA members are teamed up to speak on each topic. You can listen to the presentation, follow along on your computer as the instructors’ move through their PPT slides and ask questions in real time. Webinars typically last for less than two hours and are focused on narrow topics.
If you have suggestions for future topics, please contact Heidi Lambert.
