Mandatory demand response could cut peak need for power by 20% in a decade, FERC says
Demand response programs potentially could lower peak U.S. demand by up to 20% by 2019, according to a new report, A National Assessment of Demand Response Potential, issued by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. However, the maximum savings would come at a price—mandatory participation by all electricity consumers in a dynamic (i.e., real-time) retail pricing system, with nationwide deployment of enabling technology (i.e., advanced metering infrastructure).
