A commitment to beautify the environment and help public power customers save money and conserve energy is the root of APPA's award-winning Tree Power program. Tree Power is a nationwide effort by public power utilities to plant trees. Each public power utility designs its own tree-planting program based on local resources and needs, while participating in the national Tree Power program.

  Why Should Your Utility Join Tree Power? 

Tree Power participation is free and open to all APPA members that are looking for a new way to show their customers how much they care. There are many good reasons to join Tree Power

Since its inception in 1991, Tree Power has achieved amazing local success resulting from the innovative initiatives of its more than 265 participants.

2008 Tree Power Grant Winner Continues to Plant Despite Heavy Snow

It’s been more than a year since Manilla Municipal Utilities received the $2,500 Tree Power grant, and the Iowa utility is making major progress in its tree-planting program, even in several feet of snow! Manilla planted 16 Prairie Fire Crab trees, six Spring Snow Crab trees, and two Fall Fiesta Sugar Maple trees.

Three Utilites Win Golden Tree Status

Westerville Electric, Ohio, Division, Worthington, Minn., Public Utilities, and Bristol, Virginia Utilities received the APPA Golden Tree Award in 2009 for planting one tree for every customer the utility serves. Westerville Electric is the 74th recipient of the Tree Power Golden Tree Award, Worthington Public Utilities is the 75th, and Bristol, Utilities is the 76th. The Golden Tree Award was created in 1991.
