APPA has launched a Mutual Aid Task Force to further develop and strengthen public power’s mutual aid network. The task force will hold its first in-person meeting during APPA’s Legislative Rally on Tuesday, March 12, from 1 to 4:30 p.m., Eastern time, at the Grand Hyatt in Washington, D.C.  The purpose of the session is to further develop public power’s mutual aid network by:

•  Discussing mutual aid best practices on the national, regional, state, and local levels;
•  Developing sample mutual aid contracts (in addition to the currently used APPA/NRECA mutual aid agreement);
•  Working with existing mutual aid networks, such as those organized by the Edison Electric Institute and the Large Public Power Council;
•  Identifying regional coordinators, if needed; and
•  Building a robust communication channel before, during and after a disaster;

This session is designed for individuals from public power utilities, public utility districts, state associations, or joint action agencies that understand mutual aid at the local, state, regional, or national level. This includes individuals from a policy, legislative, legal, operations, and general coordination background.

All attendees must register to attend the session by clicking here and completing the form. Additionally, APPA utility members may join the new mutual aid list serve by sending an email to Miriam Ellis  Questions about the task force or session at the Legislative Rally should be directed to Mike Hyland, or 202/467-2986, or Puesh Kumar, or 202/467-2985.
